(Camera pans over the Godavari river at dawn. The sound of a Tambura drone is heard.) Soundarya is practicing her dance steps. Her ankle bells ( ghungroos ) chime rhythmically. She is lost in devotion. Her friend runs up to her. Friend: "Soundarya! The bank notice has come. If we don't pay the loan by next week, they will auction the house." Soundarya: (Stops dancing, her face determined) "Don't worry. The Goddess won't let her home be auctioned. I will find a way."
