The male MUTO attacks a Russian submarine and brings a nuclear warhead to Honolulu, where Godzilla arrives to confront it. Their brief battle causes massive destruction before the MUTO flies away. Meanwhile, the second spore, which had been sent to the United States for study, hatches in Nevada as a much larger, flightless female MUTO.
