Season 1 was crude, warm, and almost tender. "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" showed they were poor but loving. But by Season 4, the show had found its venom. Homer’s "Dental Plan" laugh, Mr. Burns blocking out the sun, and the introduction of the Itchy & Scratchy violence became scripture. This was the Golden Age: every frame quotable, every side character (from Flanders to Moleman) perfectly absurd. The family was a cartoon, but they bled real emotion.
